The Red Level Short Game Clinic at the New York Country Club (NYCC) practice facility targets advanced beginners transitioning toward intermediate play. The curriculum focuses on building consistent setup, distance control, and basic trajectory management for short game shots around the green.
Focuses on low-trajectory, run-out shots. Emphasis is placed on proper weight distribution (front foot lean), narrow stance, and maintaining a firm lead wrist to establish clean contact.
Covers distance control (lag putting), alignment, tempo, and reading basic greens to eliminate three-putts.
To test out of the Red Level and qualify for the Green Level curriculum, golfers must demonstrate consistency at the practice area by meeting the following benchmark standards:
| Skill Test | Goal Requirement | Success Target |
|---|---|---|
| Putting Test | Hole out or finish within 3 feet (lag) | 4 out of 5 shots |
| Chipping Test | Land and stop on the green within target circle | 3 out of 5 shots |
The Green Level Clinic at the New York Country Club (NYCC) transitions players from the practice area directly onto the actual golf course, focusing on scoring from 100 yards and in. Designed for intermediate players who have mastered basic contact, this clinic emphasizes distance control, shot selection, and course management under real playing conditions.
Proper wedge gapping, full vs. partial swing tempo, trajectory control, and hitting greens in regulation from fairway and rough lies.
Evaluating lie quality, selecting the right club (bump-and-run vs. high pitch), handling uneven lies (upslope/downslope), and managing roll-out past the fringe.
Reading real green slopes, managing speed on varying grain/slopes, and sinking critical “knee-knocker” stress putts to save par or bogey.
Training focuses on developing repeatable pre-shot routines and precise distance control to reduce total strokes per round:
| Focus Zone | Key Skill Benchmark | Intermediate Target |
|---|---|---|
| Approach Shots | 50–100 yards to green | Hit green or finish within 30 ft |
| Chipping & Pitching | Off-fringe to 30 yards | Leave ball within 6 to 10 ft |
| Putting | On-course lag & short putts | Eliminate 3-putts / sink 5 ft putts |
